A pumping skid is designed specifically to the customer's characteristics and needs rather than taken from a catalogue, and delivered as one assembled unit instead of a list of parts to be installed and wired on site.
The argument for a skid is commissioning time and accountability. A pre-assembled, pre-wired and tested skid arrives as a single item to be connected rather than a set of components to be coordinated between suppliers, and when something needs adjusting later there is one assembly and one control panel to look at. Inverter control on the user pumps is worth considering wherever process demand varies, since pump energy falls steeply as speed is reduced.
Skids are also available in versions for external installation, where plant room space is not available.
