The air-condensed versions keep working in genuinely hostile environments, operating at ambient temperatures up to 53 °C. The water-condensed versions are built for modular use alongside dry coolers or cooling towers, so the chiller is sized as one element of a larger cooling plant rather than as a stand-alone box.
MEPA sizes the chiller against the real heat load of the line rather than the nameplate of the machine it serves, and specifies condensation type, tank arrangement and compressor technology to suit the site, the ambient conditions and the water available.
