Robotic palletising earns its place where the pattern changes often or the product is awkward, rather than where the line simply runs fast. The island is configured to the container being handled and the line speed, so the same technology covers a slow, complex mix and a fast, uniform one.
Machines divide into two families by gripping head: row picking and layer picking. Gripping heads are motorised or pneumatic, with plates that need no lower layer support — a patented arrangement — or jalousie grippers, chosen against the pack being lifted.
Cartesian or robotised layer-forming devices complete the range. Software allows the operator to create and modify new palletising programs without calling the supplier, which is the practical difference between a line that can take on a new SKU next week and one that has to wait for a service visit.
