A thermo-chiller solves a specific problem: a machine that needs both heating and cooling, on a site where running a separate chilled-water circuit to it is impractical. It is a temperature control unit with an incorporated water chiller, designed for installation on the machinery itself, so the machine arrives with its own cooling instead of depending on a plant circuit.
The unit consists of a thermoregulator with air or water condensation, giving precision temperature control at the machine. It is used across plastics and metal processing, drink bottling and the production of pharmaceutical substances — anywhere a single machine or cell needs tight temperature control and the plant would otherwise have to be re-piped to reach it.
The trade-off is worth understanding before specifying one. A thermo-chiller removes the need for a chilled water circuit to that machine, but it puts the heat rejection at the machine too, and that heat has to go somewhere. MEPA weighs this against a central chiller when laying out the utilities for a line.
